Zacchari Ben Meriem

Zacchari Ben Mériem

Zacchari was born in the charming city of Courcouronnes, France. Curious about science and physics in particular, he started his undergrad in this field. After studying the laws of the Universe at Paris Diderot University and throughout great discussions with students from various fields of science, he became interested in the study of Life. Particularly, he wanted to use the tools and reasoning of both physics and biology in order to investigate fundamental scientific questions that cannot be addressed without an interdisciplinary approach. He eventually earned a Master Degree in Physics and Biological Systems.

Zack then started his PhD in 2014 between the Biophysics and Synthetic Biology Lab under the supervision of Pascal Hersen and the Chromosome Biology and Dynamics Group under the supervision of Emmanuelle Fabre. His research consisted in investigating the biological mechanisms of the budding yeast’s adaptation to pulsed hyperosmotic stresses, at the single cell level. He performed his research by combining microfluidic devices, time lapse microscopy, image analysis and molecular biology.

He has now start a post-doc in the MILE team with Morgan during which he will use his microfabrication and biological expertise to study the coupling between mechanical stress and chemical signaling on the epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition.
