Manaïti Gamblin
Manaïti was born in Libourne in the Gironde and grew up on Tahaa, a small island in French Polynesia. Lulled by the Tahitian culture, he felt very affected by the nuclear tests conducted by France in the waters of the Pacific and their consequences on the residents -in particular the high number of cancer cases.
After his scientific baccalaureate, Manaïti went back to France to continue his studies. He entered a CUPGE program where he developed his scientific abilities and his taste for problem-solving, whether physical, computer, or mathematical. Then, he entered a L3 in energetic mechanics and discovered rheology. This branch of mechanics is applicable to living beings and it is this aspect that will push Manaïti into a master’s degree in Physics and Mechanics of Living beings.
During his year of M1, he thinks about the difficulties that the Tahitian population has encountered and realizes that his scientific knowledge can help to better understand cancer. It is thus in January 2023 that he obtains his internship at LAAS in the MILE team with Morgan Delarue. He started to study cancer cells and their infection by an oncolytic virus. Wishing to help all cancer patients, he immerses himself in his work and studies the influence of substrate rigidities on the infection efficiency of myxomatosis on cervix cancer cells.
In M2 he continues his research at LAAS during his 5-month internship, supervised by Morgan Delarue. He develops MATLAB programs and mathematical models allowing him to analyze the results of his experiments. Thanks to this, he can determine different parameters from his data: growth rate, infection rate, etc. He continues his training to manipulate the virus, do cell culture, and use different microscopes. He also uses machine learning to train artificial intelligence which would be used to count cells.
