Julien Faccini
Julien was born and raised in Vitry sur Seine, in the inner suburbs of Paris.
Since the first course of chemistry and biology in middle school, he fell in love with biology. On his first year of high school both his teachers of chemistry and biology saw in him an aptitude for these fields and introduced him to biochemistry, to specialize following a technological baccalauréat in biochemistry and biology.
After that, with this insatiable desire to deepen and expand his knowledge, he did a two-year technical-degree in Biotechnologies. During his first internship in a lab, he discovered the world of research and knew that it was what he wanted to do. He went to Toulouse to follow a license degree, followed by a master degree in biotechnology with a specialty in genic expression and recombinant proteins.
He then started an engineer position with Cécile Vindis at the Metabolic and Cardiovascular Research Institute. He worked for 5 years on the identification of a miRNA based-signature associated with acute coronary syndrome on a clinical project. He also participated at in a more fundamental project aiming at better understanding the mitophagy mechanism involved in the balance between life and death of human vascular smooth muscle cell during atherosclerosis.
In 2017, he moved to Marseille to work with Dr Gilles Kaplanski and Edwige Tellier at the Center for CardioVascular and Nutrition Research. He investigated endothelial dysfunction during thrombotic microangiopathy using Thrombotic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (TTP) as a model. During these years, he continued to expand his experience and techniques on molecular biology and imaging and also discovered more complex in vitro systems like flow culture to reach a more mimetic environment to answer our questions.
He recently joined the LAAS-CNRS to study the impact of mechanical stress on pancreatic tumor progression, aiming at deciphering the molecular basis of the integration of this stress.
